ATTENTION ALL WPMLS USERS
NEW SECURITY SYSTEM TO BE INSTALLED

On Wednesday, February 17, at 6:00 a.m., a new MLS security system will be in place.  Called "Rapattoni Secure Logon with Adaptive Authentication", this new system will take five, maybe ten minutes at most, for you to set up before you will be able to continue on with your Rapattoni work.  We strongly recommend that you take this into account in your schedule.  You don't want a customer waiting for you while you're dealing with a new security installation.  Get this done as soon as possible after Feb 17 - it's a one-shot deal - and then you can go about your Rapattoni business without further interruption.

This high level security system will reduce the possibility of anyone improperly using your MLS password for unauthorized access to the WPMLS database.

The first time you log on you will be taken to a site where you will be asked to select several model questions and provide answers that only you would know.  For example, you might select "In what city was your father born?" and also provide the answer, "Anywhere USA".  This question and answer, and a few others that you will select, will become part of your security profile for Rapattoni MLS.  You do this just once.

After that, the system may 'test' you from time to time to make sure it's really you who is using the system.  Maybe you're accessing from a new computer.  Maybe someone is using your password to access the system from North Korea while you're actually online in Westchester.  The system will ask you one of the questions that you had selected at set-up time, and you'll need to provide the answer that you had provided then.  This will only happen once in a while when the security system thinks there's an issue worth checking.  This is a very tiny and likely infrequent  interruption of your log on time in exchange for the very large benefit of protecting your privacy and the WPMLS database.

Rapattoni has provided a video that shows in a generic way what you should expect to experience when you log on to Rapattoni MLS for the first time starting Wednesday Feb. 17. Remember, try to get this done before scheduling any sessions with your customers or clients.

Tips:

• When you login to Rapattoni MLS for the first time after Feburary 17th, the login screen will look a little different from what's there now. Your ID and password might be on two different screens. Don't worry about it - nothing is broken - just continue and follow the prompts.

• The questions and answers you select when you first enroll may seem very basic - and unforgettable - but don't underestimate your capacity to forget even the basics. For example, if you choose a question with an answer involving someone's name whom you know well, will you remember if it's their full name, nickname, first name, last name that you entered? Our advice is to take the time to carefully think about the question/answer combos for your security profile to minimize the possibility that you'll forget the answer because there is more than one.

• Please be aware that once you set up your security profile on whatever computer you select, the system is almost certain to challenge you with a question or two every time you use a new computer or IP address after that. Once it does that, however, it's not likely to challenge you again on the new computer unless it detects additional suspicious activity.
